A Justice of the Peace Court is more commonly known as a “People’s Court”. This Court is a trial court for civil cases (with jurisdictional limit not more than $20,000), civil disputes, civil relief, and misdemeanor criminal cases. More specifically, a Justice Court has jurisdiction over Class C misdemeanor criminal cases, small claims/civil matters (to include debt claims), evictions, repair and remedy, matters involving property liens, driver license suspensions, traffic violations, tow hearings, applications for a peace bond, civil commitments, truancy and petitions for expunction. A justice of the peace may also issue search or arrest warrants in counties where there is not a magistrate assigned to this role and also as the coroner when there is no provision for a medical examiner. A Justice of the Peace may also perform weddings.

That reality guides every ruling made, every law followed, ever policy upheld, and every interaction in this precinct. My connection to the Fort Bend community is not political — it is both personal and practical. I have called Fort Bend County home for over 20 years and take pride in serving the citizens of Fort Bend County, as well as serving in this community.

Each Judge of the Justice Court serves a four-year term after elected by voters in that precinct. I am grateful for the trust and confidence that you have placed in me and for your continued support.

EXPERIENCE | INTEGRITY | JUSTICE
I have over 20 years of legal experience and training. As a lawyer, I have represented indigent persons in criminal, juvenile and child welfare proceedings for over two decades. I will continue to assure that litigants have access to fair proceedings as well as equal access to justice. In addition, I will continue to serve and be of service in the Fort Bend Community. Being a Judge/Justice is only one aspect of being an elected official. In the words of Muhammad Ali… “Service to others is the rent we pay for our room here on earth.” Within my judicial limits and bounds, my goals are to continue to work with county officials and community partners to provide assistance and brainstorm ideas and solutions related to issues that impact the community. While serving in my role as Justice of the Peace, I will strive to continuously provide an accessible space that helps foster a safe, informed, empowered community. The citizens of this county deserve to have leadership that is rooted in integrity and leadership that promotes confidence in the legal/judicial system.
